Built in 1465 on the site of a fortress, the Château de Jallanges was built by King LOUIS XI, on the site of a fortress existing since the 11th century.
Louis XI, who refused to maintain the Parisian capital, decided to install TOURS as the national capital. The Château de Tours and the Château d´Amboise became the seat of government.
The sovereign then found the Jallanges fortress, a strategic location, around a practically isosceles triangle. He dismantled the Jallanges Castle, and built a new Renaissance-inspired castle there, while reusing foundations and materials.
Wishing to imprint “his paw” and under the influence of the high places of culture that was the beautiful city of Venice, the monarch created “a new fashion in the heart of Touraine” using an apparatus of brick and tuffeau stone, will ostentation and aesthetic option of refinement.
Successively owned by Mayors of Tours, Minister of the King, Argentiers du Roi and Queens Charlotte, Claude of France, of the Treasurer of France, it was also the home of Marie GAUDIN, favorites of François 1er, grandmother of Gabrielle d'Estrées (favorite of Henri IV).
Erected in Châtellenie in 1631, Jallanges still retains its smile of light today, with its elegant silhouette, testimony to the good taste of its constructors
